PLEASE Take the time to read this email and write City Council… Anyone know people in Wylie and BEYOND that will join our cause?!?
I want to stress that this email is not in any order of importance to our cause as EVERY person that steps up to help with a letter, speech or attendance at the meeting is VERY instrumental in passing there-zoning through Wylie. We thank you all for your support and taking the time to gain support in Wylie, attend the meetings, write a letter/email, or stand up and speak at the meeting.
First I would like to thank the 18 people that took the time to write into Wylie about our cause!! Without you we would have not had anyone outside of the meeting for our cause to help counter the 32 people who wrote in against us. It was truly instrumental in our case for the re-zoning last night. If you did not take the time to write the City about being for our cause, PLEASE take a minute to put together a few sentences about being in support of our cause. No matter where you live they really seemed to care that people were in support of LHS and our plans (no matter where you live).
Here are their email addresses: renae.ollie@wylietexas.gov, Mayor: Eric.Hogue@wylietexas.gov; Red.Byboth@wylietexas.gov; David.Goss@wylietexas.gov;
kathy.spillyards@wylietexas.gov;Bennie.Jones@wylietexas.gov; Rick.White@wylietexas.gov; and diane.culver@wylietexas.gov. Please be sure to note who you are and where you live (while living inside of Wylie helps, even people outside of Wylie need to write in as well).
Here is a sample letter:
I am writing to give my support to the proposed new Legacy Humane Society project here in Wylie.
For the last nine years I have volunteered for several dog rescues. I have experienced first hand and know that the need for this type of service is acute.
City shelters provide a good immediate solution for lost and abandoned pets but when they’re not claimed or adopted many wonderful animals are subjected to euthanasia. Long term we need organizations like the Humane Society to care for these animals until they find loving homes.
Currently LHS house their dogs in foster homes while they are waiting to be adopted. Foster homes are a great solution but with a brick and mortar facility they will be able to save so many more dogs that otherwise might be euthanized.
Dogs are such wonder creatures. They give their humans unconditional love and companionship as well as joyful entertainment. They deserve to have a place to live and be loved and cared for until the right person or family comes to adopt them. For some, this will be the first time they have ever experienced tenderness and care from a human.
I hope you will pass everything that is needed in order for the LHS project to move forward as planned.
I’m also excited about the dog park they have planned as there is no dog park close by. This will benefit all dog owners living in Wylie… and what a great way to bring a community together!
Best regards,
Marilyn Marshall

Second I would like to thank everyone that took time out of their schedule last night to make the trip to Wylie for the meeting. It was long and very emotional but without your attendance and support for our cause, we would not have stood a chance to pass the proposal to Counsel. For those of you that took the time to stand up and say a few words to counsel on behalf of LHS we cannot thank you enough! We know it is hard to even get to the building in Wylie at 6:30 let alone get the courage to speak in front of a large group of people. Your words truly made a difference in the outcome of the night and without your courage to speak on behalf of LHS, the outcome would not have been the same.
The proposal to pass our re-zoning request was approved in a long drawn out 3 to 2 vote. This means that our meeting on April 10th at 6pm needs to have EVERY single person that supports LHS to either write a letter, attend the meeting or stand up and speak up on behalf of LHS in support of our cause. Please help recruit co-workers, friends and family to unite in this venture as we only have two weeks to send in letter, gather evidence and recruit support for our cause. If City Council Declines the rezoning then we will not be able to build our facility at this location which will be a huge loss of time, money, energy and work for LHS.
This is the the main concern that we will be focusing on over the next two weeks:
Noise – a few of the Commissioners and the entire neighborhood could not comprehend the idea that the shelter is completely indoors. There are a few outdoor play areas but only a few dogs can be outside at a time with supervised play time and at NO point will dogs be left outside after closing hours. We are working on getting in touch with companies that can run decibel testing. We are going to ask them to go to local shelters to show that you cannot hear any barking outside the building (even in most lobbies you cannot hear barking). If you know if anyone that can help with this testing, please let us know asap!!!! We will also work with Hinojosa to gather info about building supplies and the ability to keep sound inside the building. We will contact local shelters to get their staff to come in to help testify that it dogs will not be up barking all night.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
(1) Write a letter to City Council http://www.wylietexas.gov/city_government/city_council/index.php (even if you plan to attend the meeting) renae.ollie@wylietexas.gov, Mayor: Eric.Hogue@wylietexas.gov;
Red.Byboth@wylietexas.gov;
David.Goss@wylietexas.gov;
kathy.spillyards@wylietexas.gov;
Bennie.Jones@wylietexas.gov;
Rick.White@wylietexas.gov;
and diane.culver@wylietexas.gov
(2) Recruit Friends and Family to write City Council in support of LHS and our plans for the adoption facility
(3) Attend the next meeting on April 10th at 6pm at Wylie (300 Country Club Rd, Building 300, Wylie, TX)
(4) Speak at the meeting on April 10th (even if you just stand to say that you “are in support of the plans for the adoption facility” and that’s all you say… it really does help)
Thank you all for taking the time to read this email and help LHS with our cause!!!! This is the first step in an amazing plan to help save many many furry lives in the greater DFW area. If you have any questions, please let me know.
