As you all know, LHS has been working with the City of Rockwall to apply for a privatization contract. We passed through two interviews and a 27 page application before being offered the job on 6/13! LHS won the bid over two other organizations and we are thrilled about what this means for the growth of our organization! Before being able to go public about the Privatization contract I had to go before City Council last night to present our proposal and budget for the facility. The Council passed the bid unanimously!!!
So, Im sure you are wondering, “what does this mean for LHS.” LHS will assume responsibility of intake, adoption and vetting of the animals at the Rockwall AC. We will have a part time vet on staff to fully vet all dogs before they are adopted. The funding for this project is coming from the City of Rockwall. The current Animal Control Officers will continue their work for the city capturing and securing stray animals. RAS currently is technically a no-Kill adoption facility with a 90% live outcome. Animals are currently only PTS if they are aggressive or the vet deems them beyond medical care therefore humane EU is the best option for the pet.
LHS will absorb their volunteer/foster base and use that support to help run the Rockwall adoption events and care for the animals at RAS. We will also work to move pets into other rescue groups and the LHS Foster program. The accounting and intake will be done separately from our current operations; therefore LHS should not see any adjustment/movement in our program. Once we get the contract details worked out, we will let everyone know our proposed start date (current estimate is 30 days).
Currently there are 3 part time employment opportunities available ($14/hr with a 30 hr week). If you are interested in the part time positions, please stay tuned for application details over the next 2 weeks. This does not deviate from our current plans for the LHS Adoption Facility. In fact, this will only help strengthen our program and better prepare us for running the facility that we have all been working tirelessly to achieve. The city has proposed bonus incentives to LHS if we come in under budget. This income will go towards the LHS Adoption Facility plans. If you have any questions, please let me know!! We are very excited about this venture and hope that it will be a wonderful way to save more pets in the DFW area and help raise awareness about LHS!
