Dandy was brought into the shelter after a bad storm had passed through Rockwall. He had a look of defeat on his face with his head hung down as he stood in our lobby avoiding eye contact. He laid on the floor with his back turned our way and made no attempt to desire human contact. He was matted so badly that his legs were hardly mobile. He had a tether still attached to his neck that he had broken loose from by chewing through it. His collar was embedded in his fur but luckily it didn’t grow into his skin. He needed medical grooming to relieve the pressure on his skin and his tiny little body. After he was groomed his personality changed. He pranced and played around the yard like a puppy. His eyes were bright and it appeared as though he had regained confidence in his future. His life was no longer one of shame, tied to a tree and left in torrential storms, freezing temperatures, 100 plus degree summers. He now had a bright future ahead of him and was ready to face the world with his head held high. He was neutered, microchipped and heartworm tested the following week and unfortunately tested positive for heartworms which are lethal if left untreated. Thanks to donors like you, we have a program to treat all heartworm positive dogs to help give them the life saving care they need. Dandy only spent 10 days at our shelter before he was adopted. He is now in a loving home and has undergone heartworm treatment where he will go on to live a long happy life in his furever home.
