The LHS owner surrender program was put in place to help keep dogs from going to the shelters. Understand that LHS is a home based foster program so our space is very limited. Completing the owner surrender form does not guarantee a place in our program. It is up to the LHS foster homes to decide if they are able to commit to taking your pet into foster care. LHS is a true “No Kill” program that will keep the dog in our adoption program for the remainder of his/her life, unless (1) the dog becomes ill and the vet recommends Euthanasia due to suffering that the vet is not able to treat or (2) if the dog is deemed unadoptable for reasons of aggression.
All microchip registration will be transferred to LHS upon acceptance into the adoption program. If the dog is not chipped, LHS will microchip the dog with LHS contact info. If the dog is not current on Heart Worm prevention, Heart Worm test, Spay/Neuter, and vaccinations, these services will need to be done prior to LHS taking the dog into the adoption program. Or you can pay fees accordingly to surrender your dog to LHS. For example, a HW test costs LHS $25. If your dog is not current on HW prevention or had a test in the last 12 months, LHS will collect $25 from you when you surrender your dog to the adoption program.
