Praline entered into our program on October 3, 2012. She was just a young adult at an estimated 8 months of age but had already looked like she had been to hell and back. She was emaciated, covered in fleas, infested with internal parasites and 90% of her body was hairless from a skin condition called mange. The type of mange she has is not contagious and she is born with it. The mites will stay dormant as long as she remains healthy and happy. Stress and poor nutrition bring out the mites which in turn begin to slowly eat away at her skin. Thanks to donors like you we were able to have our onsite vet see her immediately and start her on a treatment involving daily baths, dewormer, antibiotics for the infection, cream, spray and oral ivermectin. While the shelter isn’t the best place for a dog recovering from a stress inducted skin condition, in the months that followed Praline began to blossom in the care of the shelter staff. She reached a healthy weight in a months time and her skin was completely healed soon there after. She always remained happy, care free and in good spirits greeting everyone she met with a wag and a smile. On April 22, 2013 after 7 months in foster care it was Praline’s turn to find her forever home. She was adopted by a wonderful family and now living the high life in McKinney, TX. Praline is a true story of rags to riches and it’s stories like this one that keep us going.
