Animal Shelter Garland TX

Do you know how many animals are in animal shelters? How many pets are surrendered and housed in pet shelters? Approximately 6.5 million animals enter an animal shelter and each year approximately 1.5 million pets are euthanized. While this number may shock you, this founding fact is what motivates the team at Legacy Humane Society to carry out the mission in the Garland TX area.

Our mission is to rescue adoptable pets from animal shelters and animal control facilities and rescue pets from abusive and neglectful situations, including puppy mills and “backyard breeders”. We are also helping to educate the public on proper animal care and promote spaying and neutering of all pets. We offer medical treatments for all animals and provide foster homes, and place rescued animals into forever housing.

Did you know that you can help your local animal shelter in so many different ways even if you don’t rescue animals from the shelter? Here are some ways you can help your local shelters in Garland and around the world:

  • Educate your friends and family. By educating people on the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.
  • Volunteer! What a fun way to interact with pets at the shelter and get your cuddles in.
  • Foster! If you’re too busy to commit to a pet but love helping out you’d be helping two animals. The one you take into your home and the other pet who will get a place in the animal shelter.
  • Spread the word! Share pictures/videos of cuddly pets to help promote your friends and family to adopt.

Many of us are willing to help animals in need, especially pets in the shelters, but it can be difficult as many of us may not know where to start or how to help. The first step is an easy one, reach out to your local shelter to see what their needs are and create an action plan from there!

Feel like you’re ready for the BIG step and ready to rescue a pet from the animal shelter? Our mission is to provide assistance to dogs who have been abused, neglected and abandoned. We are brought together by the common belief that our community’s responsibility to help give care and attention to animals in need of permanent homes and veterinary assistance.
